There is a disease among us my friends and its name is rivalry.
Why do bands fight against each other when they could join forces and dominate the music industry?
Here in Finland there are loads of talented bands in every genre but there is no team effort.
Every band is trying to beat the other ones so that they could be the new rising star. Everyone seems to think that if band A gets some level of success it means that band B cannot have the same anymore.
For instance band competitions…WTF? How can bands compete in who’s the better band, especially when they represent different genres?
Record companies love this. They enjoy it when bands try to beat each other instead of working together.
I have nothing against “healthy” competition, you know when you see someone play live and then you’re up next and you have to destroy the stage to put on a better show…I’m all for it. But to act like every other band is the enemy…is just wrong.
The only way smalltime bands can survive, is teamwork.
We need to join forces. The rivalry has to stop immediately.
Think about the possibilities if bands would team up.
It’s easier to get gigs for 3 bands than for 1 band. It’s easier to sort out the backline for 3 bands than for 1 band; band A brings the drums and bass gear, band B brings the guitar cabinets and heads and band C brings the PA etc.
I hope that someone reads this and agrees with me. Because when we fight each other we only hurt each other. If we work together we will all benefit from it.
Right now here in Finland and I am guessing that all over the world as well… major record companies try to stop small bands that are not on their roster from getting gigs, airplay and from getting nationwide and worldwide distribution.
Major labels threaten music retails that they will not supply them with their latest “star’s” album if certain indie labels artists are on the same shelf.
This is outrageous! No morals, no ethics and no code of conduct.
But if indie labels and their bands work together they can crush the major labels efforts to dominate the music industry.
It’s time for a revolution in the music industry. Will you join us?
It’s time to rock!
